Workers end strike at Indian supplier to GM, Ford

NEW DELHI - Workers at an India auto-parts maker have ended a six-week strike, which had hit supplies to General Motors and Ford and caused the shutdown of some North American plants, an official at the Indian firm said.

"We had a settlement last night," Surendra Singh, senior vice president for human resources at Rico Auto Industries Ltd, said on Friday.

"Within a day or two, we'll be able to achieve 100 percent production."

More than 2,000 workers at the Rico plant, situated outside the Indian capital and which makes transmission parts for vehicles, began the strike on Sept. 21 after the company suspended some of their colleagues citing indiscipline.

Singh said the firm would make up for the lost production by increasing plant capacity utilisation. (Reporting by C.J. Kuncheria)
