'New Moon' breaks box-office record on opening midnight

"The Twilight Saga: New Moon" which debuted less than 24 hours ago, has already set a box-office record.

The film broke a new record  for midnight screenings. It reportedly earned $26.3 million in ticket sales, after opening early Friday, Summit Entertainment estimated Friday, according to the Associated Press.

The previous record for midnight screenings was held by "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," with $22.2 million and third place was the Batman sequel "The Dark Knight" with $18.5 million.
