The Bible's teaching on monogamy is attuned with neuroscientific findings that the human body operates best with one sexual partner for life, according to a sexologist and a Presbyterian minister.
In a joint neuroscientific study presented at a national conference on religion in a Melbourne public square over the weekend, Sydney University sexologist Patricia Weerakoon and her son, Sydney Presbyterian minister Kamal Weerakoon, acknowledged the Bible as possibly the best and not only the oldest source of sound advice on sexuality.
Mrs. Weerakoon described the biblical teaching on sex as deeply positive because "God made us for it." She added that biblical sexual ethics were healthier than women's and girls' magazines that suggest sexual techniques.
Mr. Weerakoon, for his part, said society has a misconception that biblical, Christian sexual ethics are outdated, irrelevant, repressive and harmful.
