A new report reveals that two children in Australia are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes every day.
According to the study by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, the diabetes rates in children rose up substantially in between 2000 and 2004 but stayed stable up till 2008.
Anna-Marie Waters from the institute stated that the incidence of type 1 diabetes stays high in Australia compared with other countries.
She said, "Australia has a very high rate of type 1 diabetes in children compared to many other countries."
Australia is in fact one of the top ten OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) countries with the highest rate of diabetes in children and it still is a concern, said Ms Waters.
Diabetes in children, according to Ms Waters places a tough pressure on their families and health care.
Children have to live with the life-long condition for the rest of their lives, she said.
