Cost of Living in Canada Steady in March; Core CPI Ease

Statistics Canada today reported that consumer price index in March was at 0.4 percent, unchanged from the previous month and below median estimates of 0.5 percent. CPI in the year ended March fell to 1.9 percent from 2.6 percent, below 2.0 percent estimated.

Core CPI, a less volatile measure which excludes food and energy prices, rose 0.3 percent as forecasted compared with 0.4 percent a month ago, while compared with a year ago, Core CPI fell to 1.9 percent from 2.3 percent in line with market consensus.
