On Thursday a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 hit Costa Rica leaving two dead.

The earthquake which had at least four aftershocks has caused severe damage to buildings with many losing their ceilings and windows to the quake which was centered approximately 22 miles northwest of the San Jose capital near the Poas Volcano national park.

Thousands of people frightened by the quake ran from homes and malls, some kneeled and prayed and yet others cried helplessly.
