NEW DELHI (Commodity Online): India's cotton arrivals in the domestic market witnessed a minimal rise of 0.1% to 16.50 million bales since the start of crop year to January 23.

Higher arrivals in Gujarat and Rajasthan markets offset in other growing states, according to the Cotton Corporation of India's data.

Arrivals in the western state of Gujarat, the country's largest producer, rose 46% from a year earlier to 5.80 million bales of 170 kilograms each, while those in Rajasthan increased 38% to 800,000 bales, the data showed.

Total arrivals in the southern states declined 17% to 2.83 million bales, while in northern states they fell 5% to 3.05 million bales. India produced 29 million bales of cotton in 2008-09.
