A Florida teacher has been suspended after hosting a party for the middle school soccer team she coaches.
Courtney Spruill, a soccer coach and PE/Health teacher at Jacksonville’s Kernan Middle School, was suspended without pay on July 1 by the Duval County School Board, reports WTEV.
According to the investigation documents, the investigation was launched after a student asked a softball coach about holding a party for the school’s soccer team. The May party was held at the home of one of the soccer players.
The documents say the student told investigators that Spruill was drinking alcohol at the party and was also twerking on team members.
Spruill’s actions were described as a “gross exercise of poor judgment” by investigators.
Cellphone video was also reviewed by the district. The clip showed Spruill receiving a lap dance from a student.
The owner of the home where the party was held told investigators that Spruill did bring vodka to the home, but the alcohol was only a gift and that Spruill only drank soda at the party.
