Congratulations are in order for Courtney Stodden and husband Doug Hutchison. The pair revealed on Monday that they are expecting their first child together — news that came as a surprise even to them.

Stodden, 21, opened up about her pregnancy in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. The controversial reality TV star told the publication that she is just four weeks along. Neither she nor Hutchison, 55, was planning on children at this time, though both are “happy” with the news.

“I’m going through a lot at the moment. This wasn’t a planned pregnancy,” she said. “But life happens.”

While it appears things are going well for Stodden and her husband, the pair recently went through some major trials and tribulations. Stodden appeared on Lifetime’s “The Mother/Daughter Experiment: Celebrity Edition” alongside her mother, Krista Stodden. During the show the pair worked through their issues — some of which centered around Hutchison. In one particular episode Stodden claimed her mother was “crazy for fame,” while Krista alleged that her daughter was being “brainwashed” by her husband.

Stodden and Hutchison married in 2011 in Las Vegas. At the time, the former “Big Brother U.K.” star was just 16 years old. They separated more than two years after their marriage, which lasted nine months. At the time Stodden’s mother told People that her daughter realized “she really, really loves Doug” and wanted to live out her days by his side.

Neither has revealed any more information about the pregnancy. It remains unclear whether they are expecting a boy or a girl or have begun considering names for the child.
