Fans of “America’s Team” looking for news on the Dallas Cowboys will not find injury updates affecting their fantasy football team or the latest roster moves on cowboys.com, which is actually a gay dating website.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wanted the domain cowboys.com, but a misunderstanding led the web address to be acquired byCowboys.com Group LLC, which is using cowboys.com as a niche gay dating site catering to cowboys and their admirers. The bidding over cowboys.com occurred in 2007, but the site didn’t go live until last week, according to a press release from Cowboys.com Group LLC.A misunderstanding over the price of the domain led the Dallas Cowboys to back out acquiring the domain, according to domainnamenews.com.“An inside source confirmed with DomainNameNews that the deal began to fall apart over a misunderstanding with the bidder on what the bid of “275″ actually meant,” the website reported in 2007. “It appears the bidder thought they were buying the domain for $275.00 rather than $275,000.”Fans of the Dallas Cowboys need to go to dallascowboys.com for the latest information on their team or how injuries will affect their fantasy football team.Should they type “cowboys.com” into their address bar, they’ll find a photo of a man wearing a cowboy hat, boots, jeans and a flannel shirt sitting on a white fence.“Cowboys.com is an online dating community for men who enjoy the same country living lifestyle. Are you a country western cowboy looking for a man to ride into the sunset with? Come and create relationship with singles who share your appreciation for the country way of life,” the front page of the website reads. “You'll be able to find your perfect match here.”While the website targets gay cowboys and their admirers, the site welcomes straight women with a cowboy obsession as well.“We are extremely excited to have decided on a direction for this property,” City Advertising president and CEO Darren Cleveland, one of the owners of Cowboys.com, said in a news release. “Gay dating is a primary target for this website, however, we will also serve the needs of straight daters as well.”Cleveland said he expects the site to do well, but did not mention the possibility of football fans visiting by mistake.“In understanding the traffic base, tens of thousands of visitors per month come to the website looking for a variety of things; dating is one of the most sought after searches,” he said. “To finally be able to serve these visitors needs is a great opportunity.”
