Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby is out indefinitely with concussion-like symptoms and there is no timetable for his return, the National Hockey League's (NHL) biggest drawing card said on Monday.

Crosby, who missed the last two games as a precaution, did not practice with his team on Monday and told reporters after that he has had symptoms for the last couple days.

Not (feeling) bad, Crosby told reporters in remarks posted on the team's website. But I have to make sure with these sort of things that I'm careful and making sure I'm 100 percent before coming back. No timetable.

Crosby returned to the Pittsburgh lineup three weeks ago after missing over 10 months with post-concussion symptoms and has earned 12 points in five games this season.

But last week the Penguins said the NHL's biggest drawing card would miss two games as a precaution after Crosby had taken a hard hit during a recent game.

While Crosby has not practiced, he said he passed a baseline concussion test and has maintained light workouts.

I've been doing light exertion stuff and seeing how that goes, said Crosby. It's that whole (recovery) routine again, but hopefully not as long. When I wasn't doing something for six, seven months that process was a little longer. Hopefully, that's not the case here.

Pittsburgh's next game is Tuesday against Detroit.
