Although fans are sad to see it go, it looks like CBS is going to send “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” off with quite a bang. The first teaser for the Sept. 27 series finale dropped and it focuses on a lot of returning players there to help close things out.

Perhaps the most recognizable returning member featured in the brief teaser is William Petersen’s Gil Grissom. The character acted as the lead of the show when it first started in 2000, but exited the series in Season 9 in 2009. Although the character has returned for a handful of guest appearances since his proper exit, he hasn’t had a substantial storyline. He can be seen now in the teaser below, along with fellow “CSI” returning cast member Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger).

“I vividly remember Billy’s last episode and our last scene, which we kind of ad-libbed,” Helgenberger told Entertainment Weekly while remembering her time on the show. “I became an emotional wreck. I felt like the bottom dropped out. I had spent a lot of time with him and a lot of late nights in these funky locations. We really connected and it had stayed with us since the pilot. As much as the show was still solid and I loved everybody else, there was something when Billy walked out the door.”

As noted by TV Guide, the teaser trailer goes out of its way to make sure that fans know the series will tie up the loose end that is Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox) and Gil’s romantic relationship by having Lady Heather (Melinda Clarke) ask Sara if she still loves him.

“I do” she replies through tears.

The teaser also features cast members D.B. Russell (Ted Danson) returning for duty for one last ride of the show to close out its 15 long seasons. Fortunately for fans of Danson and “CSI,” this isn’t the end. It was previously reported by Deadline that the actor will pivot from the flagship “CSI” series to the second season of the spinoff “CSI: Cyber,” which has been ailing after a rocky first season.
