“Cyberpunk 2077” has become quite the commodity lately, thanks to the success of developer CD Projekt Red and the studio’s acclaimed game “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.” It looks like fans are in for a long wait for the next CD Projekt Red game, as sources have stated that “Cyberpunk 2077” is slated for a late 2016 release.

The source claimed this was a German gaming site, which was later covered by Destructoid. While late 2016 sounds like a long time to wait for the game, fans of the developer should know that the original release date was planned for 2017. If the source is true, it looks like “Cyberpunk 2077” will be coming sooner than expected.

One other thing worth noting about “Cyberpunk 2077” is that the developers are supposedly working on the PC version of the game first. The source claims that versions for the PS4 and Xbox One are likely, due to the success of “The Witcher 3” in those platforms.

While actual details about the game are slim, GameSpot stated that it would be more “ambitious” than “The Witcher 3,” which is saying a lot considering the scope and size of the 2015 Game Award winner. The game’s futuristic setting also adds to the ambition and it will be interesting to see how differently it plays from any of the “Witcher” games, especially since the developers claimed it would be bigger than any game they have worked on.

Games being set in the future have always proven to be fairly ambitious, as the success of titles like “Mass Effect” has proven. If the game is half as good as “Witcher 3,” it will likely be considered a success with fans and critics alike.

Speaking of “The Witcher 3,” the game continues to get support from CD Projekt Red, despite the continued focus on “Cyberpunk 2077.” The game’s second expansion “Blood and Wine” is set for a 2016 release adding a number of new locations to explore and new quests for Geralt to take.

“The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” is available now on the PS4, Xbox One and PC. All of the game’s DLC is free, aside from the paid expansions, though considering they actually add 10 hours of gameplay that shouldn’t be a problem.
