The Czech Republic advanced to the quarter-finals of the Olympic men's ice hockey tournament with a 3-2 overtime win over Latvia on Tuesday but lost star player Jaromir Jagr to an upper body injury.

The Czechs said they hope Jagr, who suffered what a team official called a neck injury in the second period, will be available for the next game.

We believe he will be ready ... but are unsure how long he will last, Czech coach Vladimir Ruzicka, speaking through a translator, told reporters after the game.

Jagr played just 6:03 of the 60-minute game before leaving.

Czech forward David Krejci scored the overtime winner to end a game that saw the gritty Latvians erase a two goal deficit with less than eight minutes left in regular time.

The Czech Republic will play Finland in the quarter finals on Wednesday.
