RTTNews - Tuesday, a report by the Czech Statistical Office said the trade surplus stood at CZK 11.7 billion in May, an improvement of CZK 2 billion from last year. Economists expected the surplus to come in at CZK 11.5 billion.

During the month, exports dropped 21.2% annually, while imports fell 23.2%. The statistical office said that in value terms the imports in May were the lowest since January 2006, while the exports were at their lowest since January 2009.

In the first five months of the year, exports fell 20.1%, while imports were down 21.9%. The trade surplus stood at CZK 59 billion, up CZK 8.9 billion from the same period last year.
