On Tuesday, European stocks had a volatile session erasing the day's early gains after a report showed that German investor confidence declined more than the forecast in November. Utilities and Banks were amongst the best performing sectors in the DJ STOXX 600 index while Travel & Leisure and Automobiles & Parts were the worst performing sectors. HSBC and Intesa Sanpaolo advanced after reporting better-than-expected results. On the other hand, Barclays traded lower on concerns over sustainability of investment banking revenues after reporting disappointing third quarter numbers. Volkswagen fell after Qatar Holding announced its plan to sell half of its preferred shares holding in the German carmaker. Vodafone slipped after posting lower profit margins due to tough competition in emerging markets. Alcatel-Lucent dropped after a broker cut its recommendation on the stock.
