“Fifty Shades of Grey” star Dakota Johnson looked flawless in a red Saint Laurent dress at the 87th Academy Awards Sunday. She accessorized her "Red Room of Pain" look with Forevermark Diamonds before she presented at the 2015 Oscars, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
Johnson, 25, took mother Melanie Griffith with her to the Oscars, she told E! News anchor Ryan Seacrest. She also confirmed the rumor she stole a prop from the “Fifty Shades” set. “A flogger,” she told Seacrest. “Can I say that on television.” For those who aren’t familiar with “FSOG,” a flogger is a gadget used in bondage, dominance, sadism and masochism, or BDSM, to whip or caress. Giuliana Rancic made sure to Google the definition to inform viewers. After a quick chat with Seacrest, Johnson strutted off to finish the rest of her red carpet walk.
Since it debuted during Valentine’s Day week, “Fifty Shades” has shattered records. The film based of E.L. James’ best-selling erotic novel made more than $90 million its first week. Though the numbers drastically dropped the following week -- down 72 percent -- “Fifty Shades” raked in $23.2 million more, Entertainment Weekly reported.
The film received a 4.1 rating on the Internet Movie Database and has the following description: “Literature student Anastasia Steele's life changes forever when she meets handsome, yet tormented, billionaire Christian Grey.”
To the delight of “FSOG” fans, there will be a sequel. “Fifty Shades Darker” will star Johnson and co-star Jamie Dornan, again, but screenwriter Kelly Marcel will not return. It’s been rumored that director Sam Taylor-Johnson will not return either after “creative” disagreements with James. The movie doesn’t have an exact premiere date, but Universal Pictures isn’t wasting any time. The cast and crew will start to film in Vancouver in June and the movie is expected to hit theaters in March 2016.
