Hollywood screenwriter, Dan O'Bannon, who is best known for writing the blockbuster hit; Alien died Thursday.

O'Bannon died Thursday, the Associated Press reported citing The Writers Guild of America. He was 63.

The acclaimed screenwriter died at the St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica, California following a 30-year battle against Crohn's disease.

O'Bannon's screenwriting credits also include the 1995 sci-fi thriller Screamers, which he worked on for over a decade, and the 1997 horror film Bleeders.

He was born in St. Louis and is survived by his wife and son.
