The ballroom floor of “Dancing with the Stars” will soon be a blaze when Season 19 airs its 2014 premiere Monday, Sept. 15. And while fans are excited to see the new contestants shake it out with the professional dancers, we’re even more anxious to see what Julianne Hough will bring to the judges table.

Hough, who appeared on “DWTS” for five seasons (winning two of them), will make her debut as a full-time judge during the 2014 season. But this isn’t Hough’s first time critiquing the dancers of the long-running competition. During Season 18 the former “DWTS” contestant acted as a guest judge, giving the celebs and their partner’s criticism that was deemed pretty harsh.

“Honesty's a b----, but it really is the only way to be,” she told TV Guide in an interview regarding her blunt review of the dancers’ routines last season. “I know in the past with my guest judging, there's been controversy or whatever. But it's only because I really want to see them improve. Sometimes the truth sucks and you don't want to hear that, but hopefully the person receiving the truth and the honesty knows that it's coming from a place of love and a place of where I want to see people improve.”

Speaking of honesty, Hough then dove head first into another iffy topic: the controversy surrounding Hough judging her five-time “DWTS” champion brother, Derek, and the ethics behind her new career move.

"I think a lot of people are really concerned about that," she spoke of the feared favoritism she may give her brother. But Hough says its quite the contrary! In fact, the dancer and actress said she might even be "more honest with Derek" because he's her brother.

"It'd be different if it was like my mom or something," Julianne Hough explained. "I don't want to hurt my mom's feelings. But it's Derek. We're friends. We're buddies. We're honest with each other. We were on tour this summer. We've definitely called each other out on our stuff. If anything, I might be even harder on him."

Hough went on to explain that she doesn’t see Derek as her sibling while he’s performing on “DWTS.” “I see my brother as a competitor or a professional on the show. I grew up with him the same way I grew up with Mark [Ballas] and the same way I grew up with Cheryl [Burke] and Karina [Smirnoff]. Derek and I grew up almost like friends and teammates rather than brother and sister. We didn't bicker. We didn't fight. We were always very like-minded of what we wanted, and goals and competitions and stuff like that. It was more like a teammate/friend [relationship],” Hough revealed. “So that's kind of how I feel about my other friends on the show. Some of them I don't know as well as the others, but I want to be able to treat everybody the same.”
