And another one bites the dust. “Dancing with the Stars” fans were forced to say goodbye to yet another couple from the Season 20 competition during Week 4 of the hit ABC series. But which dancing duo was asked to sashay off the ballroom floor? Surprisingly enough, it was football player Michael Sam, 25, and his partner Peta Murgatroyd, 28, who were benched following their “Most Memorable Year" dance, which paid tribute to a pivotal moment in the lives of the competitors.

“I thought my last dance was my best dance,” Sam said Monday after becoming the third celebrity eliminated from the 2015 competition. “And I would like to leave on my best dance instead of my horrible dance.”

Sam performed the Rumba to the “Kinky Boots” hit single “I’m Not My Father’s Son.” His dance paid homage to a bittersweet moment in his life: the year he became the first openly gay professional football player drafted by the NFL, which also happened to be the year his relationship with his father ended due to coming out.

“This was so beautiful,” judge Julianne Hough gushed. “You did it. That was awesome.” Fellow judge Carrie Ann Inaba added that the performance, which earned a respectable score of 30 out of 40, was breathtaking. “Dance is so much more than just movement and what makes me so happy is that tonight, you understood why all of us dance,” she stated.

But unfortunately even Sam’s “best dance” couldn’t save him from becoming eliminated. The star athlete and his partner joined the crew of “Good Morning America” on Tuesday to discuss their shocking elimination.

“It was a real emotional dance,” Sam began, adding that he was thankful he could share such an important moment with someone like Peta. “It was bitter sweet -- my best performance, then I got eliminated.”

Sam went on to admit during the morning show that he had no regrets from his stint on the dancing series -- especially since he ended on a high note! So, what will football player be doing now that he’s not shimmying his way to win the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy? “Now since dancing is over I’m 100 percent focused on football training,” the free agent said.

The eliminated twosome even dished who they think would end up winning Season 20 of “DWTS.” “I think Val [Chmerkovskiy] will win with Rumer [Willis],” Peta revealed. “She’s got this presence and realness about her.”
