The Dancing With the Stars season 13 cast is controversial.

You got Ron Artest, who jumped into the stands and fought against NBA fans in 2004 and claimed that he was still ghetto in 2008. You have Nancy Grace, a legal commentator surrounded with controversy and hated by many.

But the most controversial and polarizing participant is Chaz Bono, a transgender man.

Bono was born a female in 1969, began gender transition surgery in 2008, and legally declared himself a man in 2010.

Since news of his selection, many (former) fans of the Dancing With the Stars series aired their complaints.

A few of them were concerned about his weight and athletic ability for the dancing show. Some complained that Bono does not have any claim to celebrity status.

Others are simply against the transgender and lesbian (before Bono became male) lifestyle.

Still others assert that because of the possibility that Bono's gender will come up in conversation on the show, Dancing With the Stars is no longer family friendly and no longer suitable for children to watch.

HUGE HUGE fan of this show since season two and eagerly await each season to get my dancing/entertainment 'fix'!! But when I heard that Chaz Bono was going to be on, I was sick... I just don't want that lifestyle choice continually flaunted in the media esp ABC, wrote on fan on ABC's Web site, reported TheWrap.

I am not about to risk the potential for on screen dialogue about sex changes and gender confusion while my 7 and 9 year old are watching, wrote another commenter.

Now, there is a backlash against the initial backlash against the Bono pick.

His mother Cher and dance partner Lacey Schwimmer have taken to Twitter to attack Bono critics. Supporters of Bono, moreover, are supporting ABC based on its selection of Bono.

Remember that ABC is the network with the first openly gay celebrity with their own show back with Ellen. ABC is also the network that shows Modern Family with the gay couple Cam and Mitchell (who have already had talk of a spin off show!)...ABC has one of the better track records of being LGBT friendly, wrote one commenter on Reddit.

How do we contact ABC and give support? wrote another.
