It looks like “Marvel’s Daredevil” will give fans even more violence in Season 2. The Netflix original series is already working on the second season, and set photos show another fight scene being filmed. However, it isn’t Matt Murdoch (Charlie Cox) throwing the punches this time. The Punisher (Jon Bernthal) is the one taking down gangsters.

The pictures show Bernthal fighting a man with a gun. Judging from the colorful toys in the background, they might be at a carnival of some sort. The Punisher isn’t in costume, but that doesn’t stop him from taking out the bad guy. The cuts on his face aren’t bleeding, so it looks like he has been fighting other criminals recently as well. It’s unclear where the scene ends, but anyone familiar with the comics knows that the stranger doesn't really stand a chance against the superhero.

The Punisher, a.k.a. Frank Castle, did not appear in “Daredevil” Season 1, and it isn’t clear if he’ll be playing a hero in the drama. The Punisher is a vigilante who kills criminals, but Daredevil doesn’t take that approach. When he had the chance to kill Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio), he turned the Kingpin over to the police. It isn’t clear if Matt will team up or face off with the new crime fighter in the Netflix/Marvel series.

Either way, Bernthal is said to be a perfect match for Cox when it comes to acting abilities. “We’re so happy to have Jon Bernthal because we have such a world-class cast on ‘Daredevil,’” Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada told IGN. “We have a world-class actor in Charlie Cox that we want to make sure we chose and were able to attain an actor who is on that same level so I think the combination of seeing Charlie and John perform those parts on the same screen. It’s going to be epic, absolutely epic.”

It certainly seems like Bernthal is doing his homework. He recently tweeted photos of himself reading the comics:

If that isn’t reassuring enough for comic book loyalists, Season 1 showrunner Steven DeKnight (Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez will take over in Season 2) also said that this would be the truest version of the Punisher that Marvel comics fans have seen on-screen. That means that fans who have only watched the movie versions of the character might be surprised.

“The thing about the Punisher, and I think there are great things about each of those [film] versions, but none of them was completely the Marvel version,” DeKnight told /Film. “And none of those movies were under the Marvel Studios banner until they recently got the Punisher back. So this is really the first time that we’re seeing the Marvel Studios from the Iron Man days, when they can control their own product, actually do this character.”

The Punisher won’t be the only new character familiar to comic book fans. Elodie Yung will appear in Season 2 as the sai-wielding superhero Elecktra.

“Daredevil” Season 2 is expected to premiere on Netflix in 2015.
