Daredevil Matt Karen
Matt (Charlie Cox) and Karen (Deborah Ann Woll) might get closer in "Daredevil" Season 2. Netflix

“Marvel’s Daredevil” Season 2 might have a little romance for the titular superhero. New set photos show Matt Murdoch (Charlie Cox) and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) holding hands. Could it mean that the two are starting a relationship on the Netflix superhero drama?

An onlooker snapped the shot (and uploaded a high resolution version here), which appears to show Matt and Karen dressed up nicely and holding hands. It could be a date for the two, but it could also be an undercover investigation or something less romantic.

Fans are expecting a romance because Matt and Karen have a relationship in the comics. As previously reported, Karen fell in love with Daredevil before she was interested in his alter ego Matt. At this point in the show, the secretary seems to have plenty of affection for the hero after he saved her life, so falling for Matt at this point isn't very far off the original storyline. Though as with all Marvel shows, the program doesn’t follow the comics exactly, so viewers never know what the writers will do next.

Earlier this year, Woll said that she was happy the writers hadn’t made her character someone’s girlfriend right away. “I like that we didn’t jump in real fast with the romance aspect of it,” she told the Nerdist in April. “I think that it’s good to establish all of these characters on their own before we start associating them as couples.”

After a season of establishing the characters on their own, they might be ready for romance. However, Karen might not be the only woman vying for Matt’s affections. Elektra Natchios (Elodie Yung) will join the show in Season 2. She was also one of Daredevil’s love interests in the comics, but details about her storyline are still under wraps. However, the writers are very excited about her arrival.

“I can’t say enough about Elodie Yung,” executive producer Joe Quesada told IGN. “Literally, we scoured the world for the right Elektra and, man, she is the character. She looks like the character, she walks like the character, and then she has the martial arts training and stunt background that she can rely on. It’s going to be really, really awesome to see her take over the role and see how she embodies and how she personifies Elektra.”

Romance won’t be the only part of Matt’s life causing him trouble. The Punisher (Jon Bernthal) was also recently pictured on set, and it looks like he’ll certainly put up a fight if Daredevil tries to take him down.

“Daredevil” Season 2 premieres on Netflix in 2016.
