Ron Howard is busy grappling with the idea of presenting Stepehen King’s, The Dark Tower series of novels on the screen. The seven–part novel or magnum opus traces the life and works of Gunslinger Roland Deshain as he fights monsters and mutants.

Howard, while talking to Hero Complex of Lost Angeles Times, said, It's different than anything I've ever done and in really interesting ways. On his approach to the project, he shared, We say, 'At their root they're simple stories, don't be afraid to keep it simple'.

And who is he considering to cast in the lead role? He nodded at all the names being bandied around including Hugh Jackman, Jon Hamm and Daniel Craig. He told the site, “ Sure, those are some names and on 'The Dark Tower' fansites they're all about Viggo [Mortensen].

Still at the discussion stage, Universal Studios and NBC plan to make a trilogy with a TV series thrown in. Ron Howard will direct the first film along with the first season of the TV series. Akiva Goldsman will script both.

If things fall into place, the first movie is slated for release in 2013, followed by the first season of the TV series, which will bridge the second film. After the second film, the TV series would pick up again and carry forward to the final film in the trilogy, according to Hero Complex.

Apollo 13, The Da Vinci Code and A Beautiful Mind are some of the movies directed by Ron Howard. He won an Oscar for A Beautiful Mind.
