David Letterman shocked viewers Thursday night on his CBS Corporation television show with his candid story of getting extorted by an employee of the network who threatened to reveal the host's affairs with women working on his show.

Letterman explained how he co-operated with authorities to arrest the blackmailer, Robert J. Halderman, for allegedly trying to blackmail show's host for $2 million.

CBS was made aware of an ongoing police investigation involving David Letterman and an employee at '48 Hours' who was subsequently arrested yesterday on charges of attempted grand larceny in the first degree, a CBS representative told ET, News OK reported.

CBS is cooperating fully with the authorities and the employee has been suspended pending the results of the investigation, the representative added.
