He promised his brother he would find Nicole and bring her home safely. Despite trying to find out where Xander took her seeming like an impossible task however, Eric will prove victorious on the Monday, May 8 episode of “Days of Our Lives,” when he gets a lead on the pair’s whereabouts.

Xander (Paul Telfer) found Nicole (Arianne Zucker), Brady (Eric Martsolf) and baby Holly in Canada, and shot Brady and left him for dead before kidnapping Nicole and Holly on the NBC soap. Since then, he successfully got the two to his private island in Greece, where he is holding them until Deimos (Vincent Irizarry) arrives to seem like the hero and find them. However, the plan the two cooked up together hasn’t gone as smoothly as hoped, because Nicole has been resistant and even tried to escape before realizing she was unable to do so. Now, Xander has taken Holly away from her and left the upset mother locked in a cage as punishment.

Back in Salem, a hospitalized Brady begged his brother to find Nicole, and in an effort to try and make things up to her over Daniel’s death, Eric agreed to do so. Working with Jennifer (Melissa Reeves), he has gone through every connection possible to try and get a lead. Finally, after connecting with one of Xander’s old poker buddies, Eric may get the break he was hoping for in order to try fulfill his promise.

Eric’s mission carries several risks because Xander is a violent criminal with a dangerous history. When he first came to Salem and pursued Nicole, he reacted horribly when he realized she was only using him to find out the truth about his relationship with Serena. That ended with him locking both Nicole and Eric in a furnace together and turning up the heat, leaving them to die. He later went to prison when Teresa made up claims he sexually assaulted her. He returned to Salem in the fall when he escaped prison alongside Clyde and Orpheus, and after holding Nicole at gunpoint and threatening to kill Theresa, he was presumed dead after Deimos said he killed him. His life was spared because Deimos knew that he would be able to use him one day to help him if needed, but everyone thought the threat he posed had officially come to an end.

Of course, now, that is proving to not be the case, and the danger he possesses is even greater. Though killing Nicole isn’t a part of his agenda, he could still feel provoked to do it at any time. His shooting Brady has also proven to be more traumatic than previously expected. While Brady survived and even made it back to Salem from Canada, he is currently in a battle for his life, because the shooting has caused his body to start rejecting his heart. He received Daniel’s heart after his death, and if another transplant can’t be found, then he could die. This will also be another reason for Eric to remain committed to his mission—no matter how dangerous it could prove to be for him in the end.

“Days of Our Lives” airs weekdays on NBC.
