Their wedding day will soon arrive, but before they can say their vows, Paul and Sonny will need to have a painful, but necessary, discussion about Will on the Monday, Sept. 25 episode of “Days of Our Lives.”

As the big day has drawn closer for the happy couple, the impact of Will’s (Chandler Massey) murder a couple of years ago is evident on his former husband, Sonny (Freddie Smith). The two had been separated at the time because of Will’s affair with Paul (Christopher Sean) and his countless manipulations to try and ensure he wouldn’t be a threat to his marriage on the NBC soap. While they were apart, Sonny had gone to live in Paris, but grew to miss his husband and was headed back to Salem to see him. One day before his return however, Will became a victim of the Necktie Strangler, also known as Ben Weston (Robert Scott Wilson).

The fact that Will was murdered and he never got to resolve the issues in their marriage has always bothered Sonny, but he managed to keep them pushed aside. Now though, with his wedding to another man, the same man who caused Will to act the wat he did before his murder, is forcing him to confront the issues again. He was still managing to keep them aside even as he rehearsed the wedding however, until Will’s father, Lucas (Bryan Dattilo), drunkenly burst into the church and lectured him about how his new plans to marry another, telling him it was disrespectful to Will.

Following that confrontation, Sonny had a strange dream about his late husband as well, where he imagined he was still alive, and they were happy. The dream ended though when Will questioned him about marrying Paul, and Paul also began to question his love.

Now, Paul has been adamant that they discuss the unresolved feelings Sonny clearly has when it comes to his past, and as they work on their pre-cana questions that must be completed before they can marry in the church, he will decide the time has come to truly discuss what’s happening, and whether their getting married is truly something Sonny wants.

Sonny will quickly assure Paul that he does still want to marry him, and that he is committed to their relationship. However, he will be forced to admit that the plans for a wedding are bringing up all of his memories of doing this with Will, and for him, it is painful to remember what could have been for him and his first love.

Paul will understand that this is difficult for him and why, but he will still want to make sure that Sonny isn’t considering the idea of not marrying him at all, because he doesn’t want to go through with a wedding, let alone a marriage, if Sonny’s heart is still with someone else.

However, as the two talk it out, they will decide that even though Will is still an important part of Sonny’s past, that all they want together is the hope for a better future. With that decision firmly set in their minds, they will then move forward with their plans to marry.

“Days of Our Lives” airs weekdays on NBC.
