Days of Our Lives
Steve (Stephen Nichols) and Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) race against time as Steve's condition worsens on the Feb. 8, 2018 episode of "Days of Our Lives. NBC

He's been getting secretly poisoned by his best friend for a little while now. Now, the situation with Steve will take a drastic turn on the Thursday, Feb. 8 episode of "Days Of Our Lives."

Steve (Stephen Nichols) has been dealing with some unexplained vision problems for a while on the NBC soap, and finally went to a doctor to get checked out when Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) insisted he do so. It was there that he learned he was suffering from some kind of auto-immune disease, one that could eventually kill him. Now, he's been just trying to continue living the best life he can, while realizing that he may not have that ability for much longer.

However, the inevitable rapid deterioration of his health may come sooner than expected, as he pays his wife a visit at the hospital, only to collapse while there. Kayla will quickly rush t her husband's side and will be dismayed when she learns he's not breathing either—which means his condition has gotten to a point where it may be too late for him to fight back.

What neither of them knows however is how this has happened to Steve. He had been in previously good health, but has suddenly declined at a rapid pace, which has been unusual. What they don't know is that it has happened because of John (Drake Hogestyn), his best friend and business partner, who has been slipping poison into his drinks when they've been out for a long time.

John is working for someone and doing this for a still unknown person at the moment, but it's unclear why he agreed to go along with it. He also felt guilt after learning just how much the poison had affected Steve's health, pouring out an entire new vial of it and crushing it with his shoe. Still, even if he vowed to stop doing what he was ordered, he's done enough damage to affect Steve's life on a permanent basis.

Of course, he may also have to answer to what he's done soon enough, as Will (Chandler Massey) knows what he's been up to—and won't be afraid to confront him over his actions.

"Days of Our Lives" airs weekdays on NBC.
