Sonny and Victor on "Days of Our Lives"
Victor (John Aniston) hands over the reins to Sonny (Freddie Smith) on the June 22, 2017 episode of “Days of Our Lives.”  NBC

It is something he has been after for a long time, and now, Sonny will get his biggest wish when Victor names him the heir to the Kiriakis Empire, putting him in charge of everything the family owns. However, such power could come at an immense cost for him as well on the Thursday, June 22 episode of “Days of Our Lives.”

Finally back from Greece after being stranded on an island with Paul (Christopher Sean), JJ (Casey Moss), Gabi (Camila Banus), Lani (Sal Stowers), Eli (Lamon Archey) and Chad (Billy Flynn), Sonny (Freddie Smith) wants the chance to take down his corrupt uncle, Deimos (Vincent Irizarry). However, the power to genuinely do it is not his on the NBC soap, but Victor’s (John Aniston), since he is the head of the Kiriakis family. However, Sonny’s attempt to try and make his uncle pay for all the horror he has inflicted of the people of Salem’s lives will be made much stronger after Victor summons him to the mansion and tells him that he is passing on the reins of control to him.

The news will be something that Sonny will be ecstatic about, because he has wanted to be the one Victor turned to for this for a very long time, and now, he has what he wanted. However, it will also come at a cost, because this, among other things, will put a much bigger target on his back when it comes to Deimos’ plan to take down everyone he considers an enemy.

Deimos has managed to get himself out of trouble when it came to orchestrating Nicole’s (Arianne Zucker) kidnapping, as well as several other crimes he committed, but things are continuing to crash down on him as the cops keep closing in. As the man who distributes the highly addictive drug Halo in the town, he has also been dealt a major blow by his factory getting shut down. However, he is still fueled by a need to take down everyone who works against him, and he will find yet another reason to go against his nephew after he is given his powerful new title and position.

Not only does Sonny have what he wants in terms of power, making him a target, he also has something else Deimos is after—the amulet affected by the Ramses Curse. Sonny grabbed it after Chad and Gabi buried it in the sand on the island, sure it had brought the bad luck that left everyone stranded there in the first place. Sonny now has it in his possession, unaware that it can bring him immense amounts of bad luck. However, the issue may not even be the curse attached to the amulet, but the fact that Deimos wants it, and needs it.

In order to safely get out of Salem, Deimos needs the money to continue making sure Halo is still being distributed. The only way he can do that is to get a hold of the amulet, which is worth millions, and sell it. If he learns that Sonny has it, then he may take action to get it from his nephew. Knowing Deimos’ history however, he won’t just find a way to get it that doesn’t involve making sure Sonny suffers greatly—even if it means he pays with his life.

Days of Our Lives airs weekdays on NBC.
