More than 375 people have been killed in floods and landslides in the mountainous area near Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Earlier in the week, 13 people were killed in San Paulo state, said a report by Reuters on Thursday.

It's like an earthquake struck some areas, said Jorge Mario, the mayor of the Teresopolis municipal area, where the maximum number of people were killed, said the report.

There are three or four neighborhoods that were totally destroyed in rural areas. There are hardly any houses standing there and all the roads and bridges are destroyed, Mario was quoted to have told Reuters.

Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff has announced 780 million reals ($460 million) for relief and reconstruction operations in the flood-affected areas, said the report.
