Dell will launch a mobile phone in China in the next day or two, according to TechCrunch, which cites “a source with knowledge of the situation.”

The source says Dell’s phone is so far along in development that it’s going to be unveiled in the next couple of days - although just for the Chinese market at first.

The post concludes that the phone is likely based on the Google Android OS. The hardware is supposedly iPhone like, a touchscreen with no physical keyboard.

Earlier in April, there was this news of Dell creating a proprietary operating system with China-based software maker Red Office.

Collins Stewart analyst Ashok Kumar asserted in a research note in July that Del would unveil an Android-based phone in China this fall through carrier China Unicom . Kumar noted that other carriers had decided to pass on Dell’s handsets, and that the phone would be based on the Edge transmission standard and use Marvell processors.

DELL today is up 35 cents, or 2.65 percent, to $13.55.
