ABC’s “Designated Survivor” ended on a mildly shocking note this week. In Season 1, episode 17, FBI Agent Hannah Wells (Maggie Q) and former Assistant Director of the FBI, Jason Atwood (Malik Yoba), got more information about the members of the conspiracy by spying on a strip of land owned by Browning Reed which has an underground tunnel. The tunnel has a stockpile of bombs and other weapons that can easily take down three capitols.

Wells and Atwood learned that Nestor Lozano (George Tchortov), also known as Catalan, is alive even though the then President Peter MacLeish (Ashley Zukerman) ordered Navy SEALS to shoot him. He was presumed to be dead. Until now.

Meanwhile, President Tom Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland) was frustrated that Senator Bowman (Mark Deklin) was holding up the appointment of nine judges to the Supreme Court. Fortunately, he found a solution.

The conspiracy isn’t the only thing threatening national security at the moment. Now a journalist for the New York Standard, Abe Leonard (Rob Morrow), is close to learning the truth about the White House covering up the Capitol bombing.

According to the official synopsis of Season 1, episode 18, President Kirkman will consider candidates for Vice President. Madam Speaker Kimble Hookstraten (Virginia Madsen) is on the list of potential candidates but she might soon become the last one on that list after her name gets smeared in a scandal.

Elsewhere, Wells and Atwood return to Washington, D.C. from North Dakota with a critical new lead.

Furthermore, Abe’s investigation into the Capitol bombing takes an unexpected turn.

The promo of the episode (which you can watch below), titled “Lazarus,” shows Press Secretary Seth Wright (Kal Penn) reading a scathing article in Politico.

The video hints that the identity of the traitor in the White House will finally be revealed in episode 18.

“Designated Survivor” airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EDT on ABC.
