Can a family member’s past threaten to destroy Tom Kirkman’s presidency? Watch “Designated Survivor” Season 1, episode 5 on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 10 p.m. EDT on ABC. ABC/Ben Mark Holzberg

What’s the quickest way to end a President’s term? A scandal. ABC TV show “Designated Survivor” has, so far, stayed away from portraying family drama but Season 1, episode 5 will show Tom Kirkman’s (Kiefer Sutherland) family taking center stage when a scandal threatens to put his presidency in jeopardy.

Kirkman’s struggles with his new job will take a backseat when secrets from one family member’s past threaten to surface, TVGuide reports. This secret, if discovered by the public, could cause a scandal in “Designated Survivor.” Fans of the freshman series will also learn that one family member isn’t who they say they are.

Moreover, if this scandal sees the light of day, those who support President Kirkman will do some damage control by going behind his back and engaging in political trickery. Remember how his Chief of Staff Aaron Shore (Adan Canto) leaked Majid Nassar’s video so that people would stop talking about Kirkman’s interview?

Who is the family member who will cause harm to the former HUD Secretary’s reign?

The first guess is, of course, Tom’s son Leo (Tanner Buchanan). An episode of “Designated Survivor” Season 1 revealed that Leo is also a drug smuggler. When his mother Alex (Natascha McElhone) found out that he trades cash for pills, she was furious. But the First Lady chose to keep it from her husband simply because he already had so much on his plate at that time. A son’s drug smuggling past could hamper his father’s Presidency.

However, the secret could also involve Alex or even Tom. We guess that Aaron is soon going to find out since he hired a private investigator to dig into Kirkman’s past.
