Despite the release of “Battlefield: Hardline,” it appears that game developer DICE hasn’t given up on “Battlefield 4” just yet. The fourth installment of the “Battlefield” series is getting a huge patch update that will include new weapons, more balanced weapon damage and a new multiplayer mode.

This “Battlefield” update was announced on the official blog of the game, where previous announcements for “Battlefield 4” and “Battlefield: Hardline” have been made. The site notes that more information on the “Battlefield 4” patch will be released this week after players download and install it.

IGN has confirmed that five new weapons will be available: an assault rifle, a carbine, PDW, a sidearm and an LMG. Fans of the game’s multiplayer mode will be thrilled with the new weapons as they add variety to those already available.

DICE has also promised to rebalance the weapons of the game as some guns were more effective than others, leading to some cheap kills that multiplayer users disliked. The changes are intended to help make the game a more fair and enjoyable multiplayer experience.

The big news coming out of this “Battlefield 4” update is the return of the acclaimed “Gun Master” mode that was popular in the “Battlefield 3” multiplayer matches. The mode allows matchmakers to choose the weapons for the other participants, giving them a huge advantage or disadvantage as they can limit the weapons to just regular or DLC ones, maybe even limiting a participating team to riot shields and nothing else.

If there is any downside, it’s that DICE will have to schedule a short multiplayer shutdown for each platform to ensure the success of the new patch. Still, that is of little consequence considering all the new content that will be available for “Battlefield 4.”
