Did Beyonce Lip-Sync National Anthem At Inauguration? Fans React In Shock Ahead Of Super Bowl Performance

Beyonce gave an outstanding performance at the Presidential Inauguration, but now she is accused of lip-syncing the National Anthem.

The New York Post reported that a representative for the United States Marine band said that Beyonce decided to sing using a pre-recorded track right before she took the stage.

“All music is pre-recorded for the ceremony because there are so many eventualities and conditions that day,” Kristin DuBois, a band representative told Page Six.

“We performed, live, the band. But we received last-minute word that Beyonce was going to use the pre-recorded vocal track. Those were the instructions we were given. We don’t know what the reason why.”

Over the weekend, Beyonce told Zap2It that although she is one of the most sought after singers in the world, she gets anxious when it comes to such momentous performances.

"I can't really think about it until it is over. It is too much! There is no way I would be able to sing," she said.

"I know it, but it is the type of thing doesn't matter how many times you sing it. And the biggest fear is making sure you sing it right, and sing it correctly.”

Jessica Coen, who watched Beyonce perform the "Star-Spangled Banner," wrote on Gawker, “The earpiece! The agony! Here I thought she was passionately ripping out her earpiece and going musically rogue for AMERICA ... It was such a good moment. Now it's worthless.”

Twitter user @doccevy, said, “So Beyonce really didn't sing the National Anthem live [Monday]. I'm starting to believe you cannot believe anything.”

Midway through the performance, Beyonce pulled out her earpiece, which many viewers noticed. People on Twitter excitedly wrote about that moment, saying Beyonce was so talented, she did not even need to hear herself sing as she hit each note to perfection.

"Queen Bey" even became a trending topic on Twitter.

Some celebrities tweeted their excitement after the performance. Maria Shriver, wrote, “Wow, Beyonce! Her work brought her here, as did Kelly Clarkson's. Hard work pays off. Greatest country on earth.”

Beyonce is not the first superstar to lip-sync during a major performance. In 2012, it was speculated that Madonna lip-synced during her 12-minute half-time performance at the Super Bowl.

SB Nation said about her performance, “The only thing Madonna proved during the Super Bowl 46 show is her irrelevance; the halftime show was so obviously lip-synced that it was painful. Madonna, though, did lip-sync perfectly in time, which is much easier said than done.”

In 2009, Jennifer Hudson lip-synced the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. American Idol music director Ricky Minor told the Associated Press that he asked her to lip-synch to a previously recorded track.

As Beyonce is set to perform at the 2013 Super Bowl next month, this begs the question: Will she lip-sync her half-time performance?
