Bollywood actress Jiah Khan is dead after an apparent suicide. The 25-year-old beauty was found in her Juhu, Mumbai, home Monday night, the Times of India reported. Khan, who was also known as Nafisa, reportedly hanged herself inside her residence without leaving a note. Police found her body around 11 p.m.

According to sources who spoke to the Indian news outlet, Khan had battled depression. “She had been depressed for some time due to personal issues, but was keen on returning to acting soon. She was also meeting filmmakers regarding projects,” one "insider" said.

Her passing has stunned her friends. "We knew each other socially and often discussed our London connection,” Tanuj Garg from Balaji telefilms told Times of India. “She was a soft-spoken, sweet and a pleasant individual. Truly shocked at the news!"

Khan had been distant from social media, taking to her Twitter account on May 24 to address her absence: “So sorry I have been off twitter! Took a bit of a break from twitter verse.. sometimes u need a sabbatical to recollect ur thoughts.”

She described herself as an “actor...poet...singer..musician..and dreamer” on Twitter. In the mini-blog description she also added, “Life through my rose coloured glasses ;-) formerly known as Jiah Khan.”

Khan, who was born in New York City and raised in London, is best know for appearing in the controversial movie "Nishabd” with Amitabh Bachchan and in "Ghajini,” where she appeared on film alongside Aamir Khan.

Her costar Bachchan was in disbelief when he heard the news: “T 1128 -WHAT ...!!! Jiah Khan ??? what has happened ? is this correct ? unbelievable !!!”
