“Scandal” Season 7 is wrapping up after 18 episodes, but before the ABC series bids goodbye, lead star Kerry Washington may take on a different role in the show.

On her Instagram account, the actress posted a photo with her “Scandal” co-star Scott Foley, seemingly hinting that she may try her hand at directing an episode. In Washington’s caption, she said that she learned some things from Foley, but most of them weren’t about directing. Foley previously directed two episodes of “Scandal” — Season 5, episode 16, titled “The Miseducation of Susan Ross,” and Season 6, episode 3, titled “Fates Worse than Death.”

Washington has not yet directed an episode of “Scandal,” and no other details about the upcoming episodes have been revealed. What is only known is that the cast of “Scandal” have all returned to the set to film for the upcoming installments.

Meanwhile, Darby Stanchfield recently shared some details about her character, Abby Whelan, in the upcoming episodes. While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the actress confirmed that Abby will return to her role as a Gladiator in Season 7 and will be working closely with Quinn (Katie Lowes), who is now the head of Quinn Perkins & Associates (QPA).

“She’s Quinn’s right-hand person. They’ve even moved Abby into the office right next to Quinn’s. Right now, QPA has a branding crisis on their hands. Everybody knows who Olivia Pope is in this town, but nobody knows who Quinn is, so the Gladiators are trying to hustle up work and find clients. That is the first hurdle,” she explained.

Last season, Olivia was asked by President Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) to be her chief of staff in the White House. This means that Olivia, the former head of Olivia Pope & Associates (OPA), has entrusted her office to Quinn. The lead character will no longer be linked to the Gladiators since she has some secrets of her own and may or may not wear her white hat.

In the poster released by ABC for Season 7, Olivia can be seen sitting on a bench with her back turned towards the camera. Her white hat is carefully placed beside her, which is perhaps a sign that Olivia will be taking it off for the last season.

“Scandal” Season 7 will premiere on ABC on Oct. 5 at 9 p.m. EDT.
