Did Philip Seymour Hoffman Die From Heroin? New Details On ‘Hunger Game’ Actor’s Alleged Drug Overdose

Philip Seymour Hoffman reportedly had a syringe still in his arm when he was found dead in his bathroom Sunday, and now new details have emerged about his alleged heroin abuse. Sources revealed 50 baggies of heroin were found in the troubled actor’s West Village apartment in New York City.

The New York Daily News reported that the drugs found in the Oscar-winner’s apartment were a brand local junkies were familiar with. Apparently the bags were stamped with the name “Ace of Spades” or “Ace of Hearts.” Sources told the news site this type of heroin contains a powerful pain reliever called fentanyl and “it’s definitely in demand,” according to a longtime heroin addict.

“From what I know, it’s really good,” the source, who is familiar with the New York drug scene, explained. “That’s what the people want ... I think they’re getting it for cheap, too.” The insider asked to not be identified for the interview.

Investigators are trying to figure out where Hoffman bought the heroin he overdosed on. An autopsy on his body will be done late Monday, the Daily News wrote.

A charred spoon was found next to Hoffman’s body, which he apparently used to administer his last high, the source said. Of the 50 bags that were found in his home, many of them were allegedly full of heroin while others had been emptied.

Hoffman's girlfriend of 15 years, Mimi O’Donnell, reportedly was devastated by the news and screamed when she heard about his untimely death. The couple had three young children together, and Hoffman was reportedly supposed to spend the day with them on the day he died. Co-stars like Jennifer Lawrence and Cate Blanchett have shared a similar shock and disbelief that the ultra-talented thespian is no longer alive.
