As of 07:04 EST, the European benchmark index, STOXX 600, was trading higher by 14.50 or 6.11% at 251.68. The index started the session today at 246.37 and recorded its highest at 251.69 and the lowest at 238.61. Within the index, 599 shares were trading higher, 1 traded lower.

Sectors that held the most positively trading shares today were basic materials and industrials, while the sectors offsetting the gains and trading with most negativity were oil & gas and financials.

Shares with the biggest upside support to the index today are led by Banco Santander, HSBC HLDGS Plc and BNP Paribas. As for lagging shares today, worst performing in terms of subtracted value were Capital Shopp and BP Plc.

Meanwhile, regarding the stronger movers in terms of percentage change, the strongest gains were recorded by Ageas which surged 28.30% to 2.26 euro; following was Allied Irish Bank by adding 27.22% to trade at 1.42 euro and Societe Generale which added 22.51% to trade at 40.15 euro.

Meanwhile, the heaviest losses were Capital Shopp slumping 18.99% to trade at 365.90 pound. Following was BP Plc down by 0.31% trading at 552.20 pound.

As for the euro area's aggregate index, the STOXX 50 was trading also higher at the time by 145.63 points or 6.26% at 2473.29.
