A former first child of the White House had something to say about how everyone should treat the new kid in town.

Chelsea Clinton, daughter of former President Bill Clinton and former 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, took to Twitter after comments surfaced on social media about President Donald Trump’s youngest son, Barron:

“Barron Trump deserves the chance every child does — to be a kid. Standing up for every kid also means opposing @POTUS policies that hurt kids,” Clinton tweeted.

One of the instances of cyberbullying of the first son came from a now-deleted tweet on Inauguration Day by "Saturday Night Live" writer Katie Rich who wrote: “Barron will be this country’s first homeschool shooter.”

The new first son faced scrutiny from social media in the past year as his father gained popularity during the presidential campaign. Melania Trump threatened to sue in November after a YouTube video suggested Barron might be autistic. The video has since then been taken down.

Rosie O’Donnell also faced backlash after she retweeted the video on Twitter, adding: “Barron Trump Autistic? If so — what an amazing opportunity to bring attention to the autism epidemic.”

Chelsea experienced bullying by the public firsthand during her father’s presidency in the 1990s when Rush Limbaugh equated her appearance to a dog and a 1992 "Saturday Night Live" sketch said “adolescence has been thus far unkind” to her. Bill spoke with People magazine after the sketch in defense of his daughter:

“I think there is something pretty off-center with people who do that,” the 42nd president said. “But I’ve determined that I can’t control their behavior, so I’ll just have to control our response to it. We really work hard on making sure that Chelsea doesn’t let other people define her sense of her own self-worth.”
