The dollar fell versus the euro and yen on Tuesday ahead of a home sales report which could indicate more declines in the housing market.

The dollar fell to $1.5520 per euro at 1:16 p.m. in Tokyo compared to $1.5510 late Monday in New York. The U.S. currency dropped to 104.15 yen from 104.33 yen. The euro was at 161.65 yen from 161.81.

On Friday, the National Association of Realtors is expected to report that home resales fell 1.6 percent in April, according to economists polled by Bloomberg.

The dollar Index, which compares the dollar with six other major currencies was down to 72.929 compared to 73.045 a day earlier.
