The dollar fell on Friday, as U.S. equities markets slumped, signaling difficulties for the U.S economy, weakening demand for the American currency.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 97.06 points, or 0.85 percent to 11,356.36 in late trading. The previous day it fell more than 350 points.

The dollar fell to $1.5786 per euro at 4:13 p.m. in New York, compared to $1.5760 late Thursday. The U.S. currency was at 106.15 yen, down from 106.70 yen. The euro was at 167.60 yen from 168.14.
