Police have confirmed that Don Harman, meteorologist for Fox 4 Morning News in Kansas City, died from suicide, according to the Associated Press, citing a police report.
Mediabistro.com first reported the death as a suicide late Wednesday morning. The AP reported that the police report said Harman, who had been a meteorologist at for Fox 4 since 1999, died Tuesday evening at his home in Kansas City and that he was found by his wife.
Harman's death had been swirling in the rumor mill from Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, prompting viewers to flock to Facebook and Twitter to ask questions. The outpouring, in turn, prompted anchors Mark Alford and Loren Halifax to respond by posting a message on Fox 4's Facebook page and relaying a similar message during its 4:30 a.m. broadcast that implicitly confirmed the meteorologist's death.
The statement on the Facebook page read:
We know many of you have questions.
We appreciate your concern, and we consider you our friends.
But please remember that family comes first.
We're honoring that right now, and we ask that you join us in that.
Please bear with us for a little while longer.
-Loren & Mark
