U.S. stocks rose on Friday and the Dow industrials <.DJI> hit the highest mark in almost three years on strong data from the labor market and the manufacturing sector.

The Dow Jones industrial average gained 92.71 points, or 0.75 percent, to 12,412.44. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> rose 10.79 points, or 0.81 percent, to 1,336.62. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> added 17.07 points, or 0.61 percent, to 2,798.14.

The Dow's high mark this session was at 12,414.03, its highest reading since June 2008.
