After briefly turning positive, the Dow and the S&P 500 have moved back to the downside in recent trading on Tuesday, rejoining the tech-heavy Nasdaq firmly in the red. Nonetheless, the major averages all remain well off their lows for the session.

A variety of sectors are showing considerable weakness in mid-afternoon trading, with natural gas, trucking, and health insurance stocks turning in some of the worst performances. Gold stocks are also posting steep losses amid a significant decrease by the price of the precious metal.

The major averages are currently all in negative territory, with the Nasdaq posting a notable loss. The Dow is currently down 25.01 at 7,750.85, the Nasdaq is down 20.54 at 1,535.23 and the S&P 500 is down 4.97 at 817.95.
