The Dow and the S&P 500 turned positive on Friday as investors snapped up shares of pharmaceutical and energy companies, offsetting a drag from technology shares that pinned the Nasdaq in the red.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was up 8.38 points, or 0.09 percent, at 9,077.67. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> was up 0.15 point, or 0.02 percent, at 976.44. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was down 12.98 points, or 0.66 percent, at 1,960.62.
