Stocks cut losses, with all three indexes turning higher on Friday, boosted by energy shares that climbed alongside oil prices.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> added 23.98 points, or 0.29 percent, to 8,192.10. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> gained 3.24 points, or 0.37 percent, to 876.05. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> edged up 1.48 points, or 0.09 percent, at 1,718.78.
