Downton Abbey Season 5 Christmas
Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) will have multiple love interests in "Downton Abbey" Season 5. Nick Briggs/Carnival Films 2014 for MASTERPIECE

“Downton Abbey” Season 5 might be throwing a love interest or two Lady Mary’s (Michelle Dockery) way. While British viewers have seen all of Season 5 by now, PBS won’t start airing Season 5 of "Downton Abbey" in the U.S. until Jan. 4. Luckily, we found a few spoilers about Mary's love life from across the pond, and even discovered some details about her love interest in the 2014 Christmas special.

Early in Season 5, Mary is going to find herself in a relationship. Tony Gillingham (Tom Cullen) is going to be quite blunt and ask Mary to be his lover, according to the Guardian. The affair will get pretty scandalous with secret birth control and another woman vying for Gillingham’s attention. It seems they’ll be caught in a love triangle. As scandalous affairs often do, it seems Mary and Tony’s relationship will end rather quickly — but don’t feel too bad for her. Mary will have a new love interest by Christmas.

“The Good Wife’s” Matthew Goode will guest star on the “Downton Abbey” Christmas special, TV Line reports. He’ll be Mary’s new suitor, but she might face heartbreak again. He is only set to appear in the holiday episode. While thw “Downton Abbey” writers are interested in bringing him on for Season 6, Goode has a contract for “The Good Wife.” If CBS decides to pick up the option on his contract for “The Good Wife” Season 7, he has to stay on the U.S. legal drama. Although they do have a summer hiatus, that might allow him just enough time to return to “Downton.”

“Downton Abbey” Season 5 will premiere in the U.S. on Jan. 4, 2015, at 9 p.m. EST on PBS. Do you think Mary will find true love this season? Sound off in the comments section below!
