Downton Abbey
Edith (Laura Carmichael) might get married in "Downton Abbey" Season 6. Carnival Film & Television Limited 2015 for Masterpiece/Nick Briggs

Not everyone will get a happy ending in “Downton Abbey” Season 6, but Edith (Laura Carmichael) just might. The crew left behind an essential prop that could reveal what happens to the unwed mother, and it looks like she’ll finally find love on the PBS drama.

A wedding program created for the final season was left behind in an Oxfordshire church, Express reports. The pamphlet apparently reveals that Edith will marry a man named Herbert. The website theorizes that Herbert could refer to Bertie Pelham (Harry Hadden-Paton), who took a liking to Lady Edith last season while she was still grieving the loss of Michael Gregson (Charles Edwards).

Carmichael previously confirmed that Bertie would meet up with Edith in Season 6. “They bump into one another when he’s down in London. They arrange to meet up but suddenly she has a newspaper to get out! And so in the end, he comes and helps her out and they stay up all night getting the job done,” the actress told UnrealityTV. “It’s a really nice scene, and it gives a few nice moments to Edith because she’s surprised and impressed by how at ease with himself Bertie is. He’s not thrown by her having this job, he just gets on with it.”

If the reports of a wedding are true, it might be a relief for Carmichael. The Brit has said that Edith’s constant sorrow is not her favorite part of the job. “I’ve always loved her,” she told InStyle. “But there are moments when you have to take a breath from someone who is so unhappy all of the time and remember it’s pretend. She’s catty and vulnerable but brave and resilient.”

Edith’s wedding is supposed to be a big surprise, but not-so-surprising is Mr. Carson (Jim Carter) and Mrs. Hughes’ (Phyllis Logan) wedding. After years of flirting, the two will finally get married in the final season…if Mr. Carson can handle it. The butler seems to be having trouble adjusting to dating his coworker in a trailer for “Downton Abbey” Season 6. He refuses to even call Mrs. Hughes by her first name while they’re at work.
