“Downton Abbey” Season 6 will be the last time audiences get to see any of the Crawley family or their staff. The final season has already started filming, but certain actors are hoping for specific endings for their characters. Even Rob James-Collier has revealed he is holding out for the conniving Thomas Barrow to get a happily ever after.

“Obviously, you want to see him happy, and the only way he can be happy is to fall in love,” James-Collier told PBS. “So that’d be nice to see, and they’d have to keep it on the down low, but that would be a nice ending for Thomas.”

Thomas hasn’t had an active love life. The underbutler is gay, which was not accepted in the 1920s. While Thomas has had a couple of love interests, they’ve all ended in heartbreak. Just two years ago, James-Collier didn’t think it was possible for his character to find love.

“I can't see it on the horizons, to be honest,” he explained to E! Online in 2013. “He's been unlucky in love. I mean, when you go around kissing men while they're asleep you're not going to get a positive response … You can't go around doing that. It's not the way to strike up a relationship.”

Before Thomas gets a love interest, however, he’ll have to accept his sexuality. In “Downton Abbey” Season 5, Barrow tried to seek treatment to turn him straight. He discovered that he’d been tricked into buying a simple saline solution and a dirty needle. Barrow seemed disappointed to learn that there is no cure for homosexuality and that he’d have to continue to be attracted to men.
